Do you know what I love most about the writing career other than, obviously, writing? I love, love, love deciding on covers for my books. It is so fun, and such a different process from writing, that it gets me to a creative high every time.
When I started out, my writing budget was, by design, small. I had set aside a good chunk of it for covers, but it was still small. Now that the books have started paying for themselves, I have a better budget than before. Sure enough, the books started screaming for a re-haul.
Not simply because The Lightbound Saga is the series that sells best, it was my first pick for an update because . . . yes, I love that series a bit too much. So off I went –
Wait! Here’s where I chime in about the fun of being indie. Oh, to have the power to change anytime you want.
Anyway, off I went, searching for an illustrator who could do a fresh rendition of the covers. Finding an artist who can translate your vision isn’t easy, I can tell you that. But thanks to a connected world, it is possible to find that someone across the globe who sees things your way.
In the case of my search, the connection was through the ever amazing DeviantArt. I’ve worked with artists through DeviantArt before and the experience has always been stellar. This time, with artist Ekaterinya Vladinakova, was no different.
In a little more than two months, she has illustrated all five covers of the Lightbound Saga. Yes, that includes the yet-to-be-published final two books as well. You’ve seen a snippet of the first three up top, now here they are in full glory. All I can say is she has done an ah-mazing job with the series. What do you think?
